Wood fired bottle
Old Tavern Kiln Collective
We are a group of six potters from the Richmond area. In the summer of 2013 we designed and built a two chamber, cross-draft wood burning kiln. We typically fire this kiln four times a year and encourage the surrounding community to visit when we open the kiln and inspect the newly fired work. The kiln takes about 8 hours to load, and about 3 1/2 days to fire. We must introduce logs to the kiln about every 5-10 minutes and thus over the course of the firing we burn about 3 cords of wood. This is a unique process which create one of a kind results.
